I awoke in the darkness
outside the lightpost still glowed,
as my heart skipped a beat
on this special day.
Sixty-two miles to the beach
where the game would be played,
our team hoped to be champions
at the end of all rounds.
As the sky turned to sapphire
I arose out of bed,
admiring the plaid uniform
I'd soon wear with pride.
We would camp for two days
while the championships were played,
in mushroom shaped huts
set out in a ring.
We were billed the most popular
and the team that would win,
as we entered the stadium my heart pumped wildly
when the applause rose to fever pitch.
Our sticks at the ready,
eyes on the hockey puck,
this team was determined to nail
that most sought after trophy.
The rest is history now
we emerged undefeated,
'the beehive club'
champion of champions.
