The Provocative Flower

The Traveler:
After seeing nothing but wilderness
For many spring and summer months,
He still finds this particular flower
As intriguing and interesting as the first.
In love with nature and all it offers,
Each gift has its own mesmerizing beauty.
But it always brings the same feeling
And the same high-off-life smile to his face.

The Lost:
Looking for a source of inspiration
To help get himself motivated-
He stumbles upon this ordinary flower
And doesn’t have anything new to say.
Depression and insomnia for weeks
Is anyone counting how long it’s been?
No, no one is there for him. He’s alone
And he notices nothing except that.

The Lover:
He asked the florist for assistance
Because he wanted to find more
Of this special flower he’s holding.
It’s perfect- shining and bright-
Just like her eyes, he says.
His spirits lifted high when he saw
Such a captivating piece of nature
That he will give to his girl.

The Sick:
AH-CHOOOOO! He sneezes.
Wondering why God made
This damn flower with such an aroma
To bother his aggravating allergies.
Glad he isn’t a girl that might have
Received flowers one day from a lover,
He walks away hating the thing
That has such a fragrent power.

The Flower:
Although it is gorgeous and breath-taking
For a lover, a traveler….
This unique flower stands unheard but
Strong, like a shy symbol of hope.
Deep inside it can feel unwanted,
If nobody picks it, it will remain silent forever.
The lost and the sick people turn their backs
On an object that was not given it’s fair chance.

Author notes

I can't shake this little feeling

I was watching Into the Wild, a great movie so far. I've also been talking to a friend who is on his way to depresion, if nothing is done. And I was thinking about how something as small as a flower can stand for many things- from different points of view. A flower can evoke feelings of Inspiration, depression or lonliness, anger of being sick, or love.

But instead of it just being an ordinary flower, I wrote the flower its own stanza, sort of feeling how i feel. had to put it in there, couldnt resist
