among the daffodils,
I waited in the shade
of the trees by the lilies,
breathing in the scent
of the magnolia blossoms.
I came out to meet you
when the west wind blew,
carrying the perfume of
freesia and gardenia blooms.
I had left my garden
of begonias, and
wandered to the field
where the bachelor's buttons
grew in abundance-
there I saw you among
the daffodils on the hill.
It wasn't long before
we found ourselves together
amidst the pansies and aster,
dancing and playing together,
enjoying each other's company -
our hearts entwined as
baby's breath with roses.
I payed no heed to the crocus,
or the rhododendron bushes
that were many along our path.
I saw only the holly and the
irises reflected in the pond,
as we danced along that
bliss-filled path.
I knew not that the road we
shared would end in a field
of lavender, not poppies;
or that your words to me
that I received were indeed
snapdragons disguised as roses.

ehh
I liked it better without the flower definitions I think it took away from it. But that's my opinion. Thanks for writing though. -
Brilliantly done. I fully understood this without definitions. It is a beautifully done piece and a pleasure to read and delve into. Bravo!

Well...
Words are in bloom in this poetic flora... even men sometimes can flourish in a moment and appreciate the efflorescence of a blossomed Poet.

Thank you for the redolence, a fine fragrance indeed!

Kind of got overpowered by all the flora descriptions. I had to go through it a few times to really get the overall message. Nice poem once I got past it, though. Good luck in the contest.

A learning experience as well as an enjoyable read. ^_^
What I really liked about the poem itself was that while it was full of emotion and depicted a particular romantic experience, it was still vague enough that many could relate to it. I think the fact that you used the language of the flowers to bring in a touch of the past, thus adding a timeless, universal air.

i love this. =) i like how it was a story.
and the use of other words to represent different things was nice as well. =) great job.
thanks for entering -
I really love the snapdragons disguised as roses part. I read the poem, then reread the meanings and read the poem again and the story got even deeper. You are indeed getting better at this. Very much meaning in these lovely words.

Beautiful!

This was simply gorgeous.
I am partial to the lily . They say each month
has it's own flower so to speak and they say May is Lily of the Valley. Maybe thats why i'm partial to it. i don't know why. But May is my birth month which the birth stone is emerald, and what do ya know green is my favorite color. lol
Guess i was born in the right month, eh? lol
Anyway very good write my friend.
Good luck in contest.
