Unholy nights and decadent dreams
swirl in eddies of amber liquid.
Courage poured into shot glasses
clinking "cheers"
cold fluid conquers loneliness
drowns anxious thoughts.
Whiskey burns words before the
larynx can birth them,
anesthetizes pain along with
logical sensation.
Wild spirits blacken the mind
and extinguish the light of God.
Author notes
This is about alcohol addiction, but it could just as easily be about any form of addiction as for the mental and emotional effects.
