Dance of the Forest Elf

The Elf begins her dance of Spring,
the Spring Equinox, when all are coming to life,
at the edge of forest glen, her feet
barely disturbing the leaves and grasses
carpeting the Ash, Oak and Rowan forested land.

*step, step, shuffle,
shuffle, half step, step,
twirl, shuffle, step*

Dancing 'round the evergreen mistletoe,
sacred symbol of life eternal,
her eyes closed in ecstasy, dancing the harmony
of the land, arms weaving, hair swaying,
she steps, moving to a silent breeze,
the quiet heart beat of the gentle thud
of Nature's soul

*twirl, step, shuffle, step,
half step, twirl, step, step,
shuffle*

Her dance speaks to the Forest green,
enticing Oak, Ash, and Rowan to grow
strong and proud, reminding tender
shoots of their long lives, encouraging
roots to grow strong and deep, sap to flow
feeding each branch and buds to unfold
into majestic leaves.

*step, shuffle, step, half step*

Dancing the cycle of life, each motion
of head and arms carefully place forms
soothing Sylvan anger against Man's
carelessness with fire and axe.
Their righteous anger for the tree cut
down in it's prime, the death of the Dryads,
Nymphs, and Leprechauns when Man carelessly
burns the forest for farmland and introduces
burning iron to the land.  The deaths
of Sprites, Undines and Naiads choked from ash
in their streams, brooks and rivers.

*Slide pause, stomp, pause,
half step, step, leap, twirl*

She reminds the land of the gentle
life giving rains, the warmth of a Spring
sun, reminds the old Giants of their
youthful flush with sap rising and branches
reaching to tickle the sky, of casting
seeds out with Fortune's chance
to start a new generation.

*half step, step, half step,
shuffle, step, step, twirl*

Dancing out the lives of Elder giants,
wise beyond their years, that they
in turn will not be forgotten as they
slowly pass from this existence,
even in death, the land remembers
and celebrates them as they slowly
decompose and feed the forest,
becoming member of those that grow,
each atom and molecule joins in a new
identity. She slows to a stop, her
dance finished, until the next solstice
where she'll dance once more for the forest.
