Friends for life

Friends for life

So many friends across the years I’ve made;
one pal from school so dear our friendship grew.
My love for her is strong and will not fade;
when times were hard she always saw it through.

We live so far apart but keep in touch;
I take a trip to see this friend of mine.
We share some happy times and laugh so much
and though she’s ill she tells me she is fine.

We sit upon her porch and chat all day.
Each time I wonder will it be the last
chance that we’ll meet and to my God I pray
to keep her safely in His arms so vast.

When precious friends are in your life be glad
to share their life through good times and the bad.

Joan Benecke August 5th 2008

Dedicated to my friend Margaret Dawson

Author notes

Margaret is 14 months younger than me. She is living on borrowed time, nothing more they can do for her heart as she has a genetic disease that causes blister to bleed and she has them throughout her body and on her heart. one rupture that can make her bleed to death, she is just home from hospital from a bleed that they had trouble stopping, but she is a fighter and has beaten all the odds so far.I pray she has many more years on earth with us. If you look closely you can see some on her lips.

    I am sorry for your friend. It brings the importance of your poem into focus. That is a long time to have a friend, and I must only make the hurt more intense. But, and this is where you have an advantage...your strong belief in God. I do envy that.

    Dear AJ, I've listened to your stories of your friendship with Aunty Margaret, Uncle Peter and their children and grandchildren. I've loved to listen to the antics you both got up to when you were young.
    A great Sonnet dear AJ

    Dear AJ, I've always marveled at the friendship between you and Aunty Margaret and how close you have both been, she's always been like a real Aunty to all of us as long as I can remember. Beautiful picture of the two of you.
    Love Jen

    precious friendship

    The best gift of a friend is time and attention - um, the TWO best gifts are time, attention and unconditional love; the THREE best gifts are time, attention, unconditional love and a sonnet to recognize them. You and Margaret remind me of my mother and my "Aunt" Mary, friends for 60 years.
    I hope that she will have many more years and laughs to share with you. Best of luck, Joan!

    And you can see each other
    as when you first met,
    remember what you wore,
    how you did your hair.
    What a blessing you are to her,
    to chat with you and be that young again.

    I hope your friend has many more years for the two of you to share. Friendships that last a lifetime are hard to come by... you both are so very fortunate

    You've written a beautiful ode to the special love that's held for each other.

    Good luck in the contest

    Dear Bea,

    You've often spoken to me about Margaret and I know you worry about her bleeding condition and her heart problem but these things are all in God's hands and, thankfully, Margaret has been spared to date and may live many more years yet.
    As I've told you, prayer has much more effect than worry.
    I join with you in prayer.
    A beautiful expression of love and friendship which is an Angelica hallmark.
    Good luck in the voting.
    Applause, love and hugs, Hugh (R.)

    Heart gripping...

    Friendships are like that with both endearing times and heart wrenching tearful times. Blessings prayed your and Margaret's ways. I have a blouse just like yours in photo. We look like twins. One with an Aussie accent and one with a Texan.

    Wonderful!

    Joan, this is wonderfujlly well written. I love the wording, but I am sorry to hear that your friend is so sickly my friend. Great job! Tell her hi from America when you talk to her again.

      Thanks Damon, Margaret is a very special lady, loved by her family deeply. Her husband adores her, we're afraid if anything happens to her he will go bush.
      I will definitely pass on your good wishes to her next time we speak.
      Love Joan

    Dear Joan,

    So sorry to hear about your good friend, Margaret. What a terrible disease that causes blisters that bleed..very very sad! I'll say a prayer that she has many more years to spend with you. God bless her! No one should have to suffer like this.

    Much Love to you, my Sweet Soul/Sis!
