An unnerving silence crawls up the spine,
As fear of the unknown takes hold.
A man enshrouded in shadows stands idly by,
Watching with hollow eyes,
Dark as the pit of hell.
He gestures with slow, fluid movement.
Jagged,
Sharp,
Like broken glass his voice cuts through the silence.
Fear, clawing at consciousness,
Leaves reality warped and vile like acid that eats through steel.
Vulnerable,
Alone,
Weak,
Watched,
The shadows will attack,
Enveloping a decrepit body,
Useless against a man enshrouded in shadows.
Powerless to bring to an end,
The terror he strikes on humanity.
Succumbing to an end,
Sinister and violent,
Like the death that the Fallen Angel brings upon life.
Very symbolic to me...

Oh man, this is so familiar…what an incredible capture of such evil and darkness…the realms of pure evil, that can reside in human beings, or through spirit in the shadows, and terrify and mutilate our own sanity, it feels like sometimes. Wow, this was very intense. “Vulnerable,/Alone,/Weak,/Watched,/The Shadows will attack,/”Way, way too familiar. Incredible. I adore the metaphoric prowess and the brilliant imagery and personification in this poem. It just…man, I cannot get over this. How can you capture it so…superbly, perfect…precisely. It’s like the actual experience is undergoing, the feeling, the terror, the agony, all of it is vivid and real as I read this, consuming me…
“Useless against a man enshrouded in shadows.” I feel that way all the time. This is so amazing, Heather. Definitely puts some of the darkest aspects to humankind into my mind, like sick stalkers and rapists; murderers, psychopathic behaviors…possession, Satan…all of it, just swarms around in my mind with absolute potency as I read this…
“Watching with hollow eyes,
Dark as the pit of hell.” Too many times have I had the displeasure of being consumed by the stares of some individuals with eyes this dead and just…like bottomless pits, pit of hell. Every time, if feels as though a minor inner death of some part has occurred. The use of language is so awesome, and the style is amazing. I love the references to sharpness and jaggedness and so forth, clawing; depicts, in my mind, an entity of evil, monstrous, demonic…blasted things…a deep and profound understanding, regrettably, exudes from this piece, Heather, I am astounded…this is absolutely incredible. Ugh, I wish I could say more, say something to do it justice…if I even attempted to capture what you have in this piece, I’d fail heartily…very bold, brave, and powerful write…my gosh, the strength it must have taken to write this!!!!
