Party of Two and a Half

I'll write a book for you and me
Adding pictures with questions
And questions raising pictures
Page by page telling my favorite story
Of the city realization
Enslaved in mind
Decaying in constant acceleration

I'll paint a picture glass frame
Dabble in whites and grays and blues
And I'll ask you to criticize
Like a beautiful art critic
Praying for a God to bring
The end of imperfection -- and peace,
bring peace, peace, bring peace.

I'll raise a blind or two
Squint my eyes and read the bows of the trees.
In seconds time, rushing to a bright and spacious
tight-fit relax-my-fat-over-the-seams
beauty revelation warehouse
and i'll ask the manager if i could have the privilege
to work without a dream

Anti-impressants got me pulling fifties
For a week and a time that I sit laughing
Knowing nothing of why I love to spend time
In people's lives - sitting, laughing.
Over the fire, warm and bright you are
Can't touch too close in fear that I may
Intentionally put you out

Hand me the guitar for subtle comparison
Play half of myself for you, half I save for quiet times,
Halfway through I'll stop and return
The rest you play for subtle meaning,
And I'll pretend I know nothing, like I always do
And you'll know why I do, but you'll ask anyway
That confirmation having such a valued feeling

And all the while I sometimes listen
For the quiet sound of respiration, a small reminder
Of the edge I've lost touch with
In the hour least expected
Black and white pronouncing themselves
In a bold and glorious manner
As I disappear with the sunrise.

Author notes

I haven't been very cheerful lately. It's hard to finally realize that you were right about someone, after years of hoping you were wrong.

I really need to move on, but my mind and body have a hard time understanding.
