True Peace

There once was a time
I did not feel alive.
With all the pain I felt,
I struggled to survive.

The past was full of pain
My heart was cracked and torn.
And sometimes I even wished
I wasn't even born.

In the past, I saw no light;
In the past, I could not see
Any sort of future, I thought
I would not live to be.

To this day I still look back,
If I had known of this brighter today
I would have had a more hopeful
And pleasant yesterday.

The past is the past, however;
What is done is done...
I have made it, through thick and thin
And what a better person I have become.

Through doubts of yesterday,
I have fought a long war.
Some people thought I wouldn't make it,
Yet I fought and won, I have endured.

Enemies turn to good friends,
Friends that I thought would never be.
Loving and caring people
That believe in me.

Truth be told, it was a long war
But love and peace have won.
It's good to put the past behind,
And ignore the bad that has been done.

I could not see the good at first,
Yet now the light is brighter than ever.
I'm so happy to call them my family,
We will love and support each other
Forever and ever more.
