A friend who is far away is sometimes much nearer than one who is at hand. Is not the mountain far more awe-inspiring and more clearly visible to one passing through the valley than to those who inhabit the mountain?
Henry Ford
My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.
Frances Farmer
I have learned that to have a good friend is the purest of all God's gifts, for it is a love that has no exchange of payment.
Heartfelt Friendship
A friend is someone who can touch your heart from across the world or across the room.
A good friend is like a warm quilt wrapped around the heart.
A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.
A friend is someone who reaches for your hand,
and touches your heart.
Kindred Spirits
"There's something beautiful about finding one's innermost thoughts in another." - Oliver Schreiner
"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, 'What! You, too? Thought I was the only one.'" - C.S. Lewis
Good Friends In Bad Times
A friend walks in when the world walks out.
A real friend is one who overlooks your broken down gate, and admires the flowers in your garden.
A true friend can hear a tear drop.
Author notes
“When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.” ~ Henri Nouwen

Dear Maureen, I love all of the quotes, I love the C.S. Lewis one, but the one I love most of all is the one in your "Authors notes" by Henri Nouwen.
So true is every word written, that to me is Friendship.
Love Joan

Thank you, Joan. The one in my Author Notes by Henri Nouwen is my favorite one, too.
I like the fact that you capitalized Friendship. It deserves to be capitalized.
I'm so glad you're my Friend and Soul/Sister!
Love you!

Khalil Gibran..one of my very favorite authors...thanks for posting all the wonderful quotes...

Dear Maureen,
Every one of these quotes is so true.
I love the one of C.S.Lewis especially and I rather like this one of Ralph Waldo Emerson because I have four friends from schooldays over 60 years ago with whom I meet for a lunch every month when we are all stupid with each other:
"It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
As you know, I can be quite good at being stupid!! LOL
This is a fine non-entry.
With love and hugs,

Hugh (R.)

you made me smile

I love, who over looks your broken down gate, and admires the flowers,
because that simply says it all, to be accepting and always find the beauty.
absolutely beautiful.
good luck in the contest .

God bless...
