The Enflamed Poet

Lisa says,
I should find the word
but the letters make
nothing at all,

which is everything
she says with her glasses
on the tip of her nose
her fingers tracing the edge of the page

as though she had a lover I didn’t know,

Down by the pond
the world shudders
when the sun goes home;

“Not at all’” she says,
“you know him very well.”
She smiles,
“Come to supper
before the food gets cold,
but bring some water from the well.”

    Very clever and entertaining write.

My impression from this poem is that Lisa is sleeping with the girls man and is going to push her in the well to get rid of her, or is she...at first read i didn't like this poem because i thought it made no sense, after reading it for the 2nd time i realised how clever it is and how it really lets the reader wander about in their imagination and work out whats happened.

This is interesting. Unique and original. I like the first stanza. This is simple, and short, but nice. Not bad. =]

Beautiful imagery. It seems like the girl is trying to figure out something of this woman but she is hiding it and teasing her.
    "Down by the pond
    the world shudders
    when the sun goes home;"
The world shudders is an amazing line, it makes me think of that time right before nightfall...

    How amazing could you be?

    "Down by the pond

It's interesting how I can see so many angles in this, depending on what 'word' I associate with the 'word'..
although I seem determined to make it one of a specific few in my head.. two with 4 letters, one with 3 letters, and one with 5

and how the pages could belong to anything, yet also find themselves leaning toward books of more importance

and how each choice throughout it influences who the 'he' further on might be
and how deep the well is

    Outstanding

I thought this worked well as a modern poem with the right tone and poetic nuance. It was a little confusing to start with but developed into a strong poem that catches a moment in time. This is a well-written and thoughtful poem.

Water from the well is the secret of course, though I do wonder whats Lisa could be cooking that would satisfy
    a blazing poet.
