My Most Embarrassing Moment!

Chain-link fence in front of Manhattan Bridge

When I was a Junior in high school there used to be a long and wide set of

tubes that ran the length of the freeway where I live.  To this day, I still

don't know what those tubes were used for.  All I know is that they were

about a hundred feet long and almost twenty feet in diameter.  It was a

meeting place for many of my friends and I as well as other students

that used to cut their classes.

On a hot winter morning, two of my friends and I were attending one of

our classes.  We used to take Concert Choir together, which was a fun and

enjoyable class for everyone who participated in it.  This day, our regular

professor had an emergency at home and we were stuck with an old and

boring substitute teacher.  Well two of my buddies and I were so bored

that we decided to cut the class.  We snuck out the back door quietly as

the class proceeded to sing a new song.

We ran for miles out onto the freeway where we later found the huge tubes.

But, in order to get there we had many obstacles to conquer.  There was a

lot of mud, fallen trees, debris from the passing cars, and a huge metal gate

that was about seven feet high and ten feet wide.  My two friends made it

through all of the obstacles and over the fence with no problems.  I on the

other hand, was met with a huge problem.  See, I was never good at climbing

fences when I was a kid.  But, since I saw the two of them manage it I figured

that I could as well.  I climbed up to the very top and stuck my right leg over

the fence.  I searched around for the first opening that I could get my foot on.

I finally found it and proceeded to make my way down.

Well, as I brought my left leg around I accidentally slipped and got my front

part of my pants stuck on the barbed wire.  I remember feeling very afraid

that I would fall but, my belt and pants held me up.  I shouted out to my two

friends who were about thirty feet away.  I finally got their attention and they

ran back to rescue me.  As I hung there on the two spikes, gravity got the best

of me and my pants ripped sending me down about two feet.  I remember

feeling very embarrassed as my friends laughed at me.  They finally stopped

and somehow boosted me up high enough to unhook myself.

I fell down on top of them and we all started to laugh as we got a good look

at my pants.  It was shredded down vertically like an old grizzly bear got a

hold of it.  It was still very early in the day so we decided to continue on

with our journey.  To this day we are still the best of friends and I am often

reminded of that day by them.  LOL!

Thank you for not putting this into one big paragraph like many people like to do here when telling a story or writing free-verse. It was easy to read and it kept my attention so...good job.

    hahahahaha! loved it
it's not always easy to share embarrassing moments with others, but i'm happy that you found it within you to share it with me, and i'm even more happy to see that you can laugh about it! it was very amusing, and i'm reminded of some snags on fences of my own lol.

thanks for the entry and good luck in the competition!

  • This is a great tale. It gave me quite a chuckle. I was wondering though .... what was your explanation when you got back to school?

Hahaha, oh man. This was wonderful. I still am not good at climbing fences either. This rememinded me of a time when my friend and I were in the back of her dad's pickup truck but the back gate was busted so we had to jump over the side down onto the ground. I frickin' face planted and got all bruised up. We laughed it off quickly and it ended up not even hurting that long because of it.

This was well penned, very funny.

    cool story

thanks for sharing... you took us there with you that day... as a good writer would... I was looking for a message though (that's what I do, weave messages inbetween stories)...maybe a correlation between cutting class and cutting your pants??? ... okay, maybe not... anyway, I enjoyed the piece - Kevin

lol - I did enjoy this.
however, I requested pre-writes that have no trophies to keep writes on an equal footing. In fairness to the others who've entered, would you please re-enter something else that has no trophy?
    Thanks!

Reminds me of the time I had to break into a friend's house through a bathroom window. I stepped onto the toilet paper holder and my pants got stuck when I jumped down. I landed on my head. This was a great piece. Thanks for entering my contest. I'm honored to have you share your work here. Good luck!

hahaha!! Wow. At least you were able to laugh about it with them. I can't even begin to count the number of embarrassing experiences I had in Junior High; but I to was able to laugh them off. Lucky for me our 4 schools (elementary through high school) were clustered together and my house was just down the road from them so it was pretty easy to skip, since my dad started work at 5:00 am and didn't get home until around 5:00 pm!

Great write, an absolute trophy winner!!!

Thats so cool! (and funny) When me and my friends skip, we usually head to the local river and spend the day in it. But we all have cars, and there isn't anywhere we could run to. I wish we could. Thanks soo much for sharing this with me!

this is priceless.. I'm sorry I can't stop laughing, my side is killing me. the tears of laughter are pouring out of my eyes and down my face.. gathers self together.. lol we all have those embarrassing moments, the things that we've done when we were young.. the ones that we swore no on would ever hear about. but now they have become some of the best memories that we could ever possibly have. and now others get to laugh right along with us.
laughter is the best medicine they always said.
I enjoyed this immensely.. tears of laughter are best shared with friends. Congratulations on the Bronze and the HM.. excellent job..
