At four dollars a gallon,
I am cautious.
My measly part time job
cannot afford
spontaneous joyrides.
At red lights,
I cut the engine.
Waiting at the top
of a long hill,
I slide with ease into neutral.
My father urges:
"You must do
your part
to preserve
this nonrenewable resource".
But here's the truth"
late at night,
I am not above taking
an extra lap around the block
if the radio
is playing my favorite song.

I love this. It's the exact same way I think when driving as well. We try to "think green", but the urge to enjoy it just a little bit is sometimes irresistable. =)

Same here.
Thanks for entering. -
hehe, i just got my N and i know exactly what you mean. even if where i live we dont have blocks, and i just have to turn around and back track on our road for a ways... i know what you mean

I can so relate with this one.
I think we are all cautious right now, with the gas prices being so high in our country. It's strange how we all seemed to forget to have a little fun now and again, and I like the sense of mischief and rebelliousness about it. It adds a wonderful charm.

A good write, I liked it a lot.
The pace fits into the pondering theme of the poem.
...still enjoy you prices, in my country gas costs somewhere around 8 dollars a gallon.

Thank you for your entry. An interesting approach to gluttony. When I read the first line about the gas prices, I thought you'd be condmning the greed of the oil companies. But, this was humerous and I loved the last lines. I'm sure there's not a soul here that hasn't done that same thing. Thanks for sharing.

Ha!
I love the humour in this poem. But it is the truth. Even though the oil price goes down, the gas is just as expensive. So why should you carry the burden?
I like your free verse and the way you talk so seriously then you add that little grin at the finish.

Honesty. I know exactly what you mean. One means to be good, but there are certain things...

Cool, I’m mad at everyone but you, ‘cause you’re only a kid doing what kids do.
An old song by the who is you; “I don’t care about pollution, I’m an air-conditioned gypsy .
That’s my solution,’cause I’m mobile...Wo’hoo.
At least you’re honest, that means you’ll be one of the first to take up the cause
but for now enjoy being a kid!.
