In my life I have been many things:
Like a tiny seed
growing....reaching for the heavens.
Like an old tomcat
a furry striped prisoner
living all my nine lives ...misbehaving.
Like a leaf
blowing reckless and helpless
to the mercy of the wind.
Like the sun
shining on other lives
warming but never understanding.
Like a preacher
praying words without faith
in the one God above.
Like the loser
whom everyone dodges
living life without love.
Like a shooting star
streaking the blackness
not knowing where to fly.
Like the dreamer
dreaming dreams and nightmares
not even knowing why.
Like the lover
who holds his beloved
in his cold icy hands.
Like a Neanderthal
walking and thinking
am I a monkey or a man?
In my life
I have been many of these things
but of all of these
I could never want to be
like the caged bird that sings.........sadly.

Great imagery here, love the similes throughout. Really impressed with the use of contrasts and the ending of this is quite poignant yet still an affirmation. Highly original and imaginative write, using an impressive structure. Huge thanks for entering and good luck in the contest.
