A bridge over a busy highway
a woman dressed in red and sadness
across the road spread like a cloud
a feeling of a thing wanted
to be done again, only better this time;
dark eyes watched each approach
seemed to wonder who she might reach
who might search shadows beneath the bridge;
as I saw her there feelings spread upon the air.
There to remind as if needed to be
never to forsake the effort before me, not now
that I have seen what want brings
from unanswered chances, a back turned to a doorway;
and a sleepy morning drive
when eyelids dangled close and
every task was a daunting dare
when my world seemed within a fog
a sign, a thing felt and seen
along a crowded highway, where many
dreams flowed;
nearly unnoticed
was a dream caught still.

It is a blessing to see a potential end before you step out into life's journies... to have a sign, a guidepost. I wonder had this woman missed HER sign? Or had she chosen not to heed? I am intrigued that the speaker was watching the approaches, as if HER reaching and touching, would give fire, determination to his own...encouraging him to indeed make better this time. This is a beautiful picture of connection that you have shared with us.
I like how the dream came in the hustle and bustle of so many others, all waiting to be caught, but so many missed. And thus, she is all the greater blessing, the sign that singled out this dream, making up his mind to attain and not let it pass by. It is a big point you make in those last few lines. Makes me wonder which dream is for me, makes me want to catch one that is approaching and never let go. Beautiful inspiring poetry, PK. Your poem, then, becomes a sign.
Congratulations on your silver and for an excellent creation.

Ahh Ten-
In some ways we say a great deal more about ourselves when considering perception; so this has that element and being reassured is the best and most hopeful view; most rewarding of faith...thank you...PK

Sometimes we just don't see them, or choose to ignore. But when we follow the feeling they bring up inside of us, lots of things can change, including life.
I like this, and the last five lines express the whole idea of the poem so well.
A well written poem with excellent choice of opening and end.

"I have seen what want brings
from unanswered chances, a back turned to a doorway"
How many doorways do we miss in a lifetime because we were looking in the wrong direction ... missed chances? Luckily, God continues to bless us with new opportunities each day and an infinite number of 'chances' to find the happiness we seek. Guiding "signs" are all around us. Great write!

"a woman dressed in red and sadness"
loved the images in this poem; i love red....no wonder the most noticable signs are red...even some dreams. we should learn to read the signs... lovely poetry.
