My Hero

When you have meet Ted Kooser one would understand this prompt well
He does book signing in Seward Nebraska in a book store called Chapters
Works in Lincoln Nebraska he a celebrated hero here

He probably does not remember me, he made quite an impression on me
I told my poems were not very good
One writes because they love to write

It a celebration of life to our great plains heritage
This man is a gift to us the reader, he writes to touch and inspire people
When we think about what we say, we look less like a fool

So let's celebrate and write poems to inspire
To touch and make our audience think for a change
There so many things I could say to honor this man

For me he my hero
Inspiration to write better
Hopefully at another book signing, I will get another chance to see him

I feel it a great cause to make this world a better place
His books stirs my soul
Some words of advice he gave me

Keep writing it may take longer for me to write a great poem
The real shame is not trying

Author notes

I feel lucky to live in the same state with him, when ever there newspaper items about him. I read him. When I run into people he knows they say nothing but good things about him. I do not know him personally I have follow his career for years. I try to read his book when ever I get the chance.

This is a wonderful tribute to a man who has done much to promote Poetry. This sage advise is tempered with wisdom and homespun humor. His poetry is a delight to read, I wish that I too someday may have a chance to meet him and shake his hand, thanking him for all the positive things he has done for poetry and all who share his desire to write.

Your write offers an honest and fresh perspective that few may ever experience. Thanks for sharing it with us, much appreciated!

    Dennis

    P.S. Keep Writing!

You write straight from the heart with a naturallness which is undoubtedly your own voice. Within the first stanza perhaps celebrated as opposed to celebrate? Your poem made me warm to the man that has encouraged you to keep trying and the last two lines are something which lift the heart, yes, the worst thing is not trying.
