i wrote it poems and sang it songs
but these aren't the things for which blue longs
i begged and pleaded, completely at its mercy, on my knees
the silent screams and burning tears were just a tease
it wanted blood, and only in the most sadistic ways
if not by its hand then by my own i became lost in malaise
relentless lashings destroyed my mind
and the bottom of a bottle was the only solace i could find
tears go down easier with a tequila chaser
but it was only an ephemeral blues eraser
so consumed in darkness, i forgot how to feel
drowning in poison the pain seemed surreal
i'd ridden the spiral to the end and all i saw was death
so i picked myself up and laughed till i lost my breath
because it was then i saw the furthest blue leads to white
and all of my gloom became the light
