You Never Really Know

You may look
back into the past,
have faith in religion
believe in philosophy,
but to predict future
you must wait
until it has passed.

When one thinks
he has found the answers
there is only one thing
he can always be sure
of in this life,
and that is
you never really know.

Some may follow
their hopes and dreams,
rely on imagination
have their fortune told
or read the stars
but the future
goes unsaid.

Unless you have a taste
for eating lots of chocolate
your leg is pegged
and ye be
a Jack tar dog
Buccaneer pirate,
You never really know.

    Brings a response of chuckles, as I see the pirate, and hear the ending of the last stanza."Unless you have a taste for eating lots of chocolate your leg is pegged and ye be a Jack tar dog Buccaneer pirate, You never really know" A familiar statement that is yours and is really quite true You have made your point very well..Very wise write, charmingly ended

    I like the humorous way you have made your point of saying one can never be sure about life.It is one way to accept life without being hurt, and learning to go on with life. You have made a lovely write of your philosophy, and your gentle mood is seen through it.

    A favourite saying I grew up with was, 'Nothing surprises this old horse'..... what happens in life we deal with get a grip and put in the in f###ed up baggage department and slam the door. Glad you can keep on eating the chocolate a pleasure am sure. Good luck in the contest.

    Pirates just mostly go where the wind blows them, I guess, gypsies of the sea, never fearing what the future holds. That is one ugly pirate picture!
