Sorry about your Submission

Sorry we turned your submission down.
It was remarkable in its way,
Very special.  It's so seldom
We receive a manuscript
That's not only written in longhand
But illuminated in old English script.

I hate to have to return this.
It's special. Perhaps a monastery
Would find it of interest
For their newsletter.

All the best in your future efforts.

Ms. JJJ, Editor

Author notes

I think it would be less hurtful if editors would write rejection poems but they do have to be businesslike.

Lol! I just got my first-ever rejection from a literary magazine (...I should have read what they've previously accepted, not my style at all), and all I got was an email saying "no thanks." A less rude response would have been nice, but your idea of a rejection poem would be just golden.

A rejection card! That was the gentlest rejection I have ever heard, though! the ones I get are usually very terse. Or I don't get it at all. Just never hear a word again. Like my poem fell into some botomless chasm... grrr. I think it would be nice to have rejection cards, especially for the ones the editors like, but cannot keep, and don't have the time to write something more personal.
    Great!

This is good, a parroting of the form letters that so often answer a submission. Mind you, I have never had a rejection that offered a suggestion of where to put it - though I have had my own thoughts about where to put the rejection letter!

This is a great poem ...

but I know from long years of experience how time consuming it is to read piles of submissions. It's very difficult to write a chatty, friendly rejection note. I'm not really up to it any more. I've got one I should be writing now, but have been putting it off because I don't feel like writing at all.

Anyway, good luck with the contest.

This is a very creative entry you have come up with. I also enjoyed your witty remark in your AN. Good luck in the contest dear.

I so agree with the AN

If we go to such great lengths, so should they!
