Morning’s in No Hurry

Intelligent conversation

is reduced to a type of

remote sparse repartee

and a few grunts after

the alarm goes off as

lips, tightly pressed

together, mumble,

"Um mornin, wuv yu."

We have that certain

understanding we two,

until Listerine and Crest

have done their thing

then, it's a race against

the clock, to get out of

the house, but not before

a proper morning kiss.

I really liked this one because it made me giggle. It's oh-so true and i have had this experience many times. Good use of the title. Loved it.

Ahh yes, the things that are ordinary in a relationship yet speak of comfortable presence.

You write these moments so well MJ!

I like reading your "A day in the life of..." poems. Even when shift work takes its toll there are still those days when you both wake up together and life reverts to the familiar things...I always find those moments so comforting.

    Best wishes in the contest.

    Love Margaret

    Awwww

    Love these lines:
    We have that certain

    understanding we two,

    until Listerine and Crest

    have done their thing

hehehehe silly little things. Fun to read, and a look within the life a man and his wife.

This poem has such a warmth, such a sense of closeness about it... yes, those slow, lazy hours before life and routine sets it.

this one made my eyes all soft this morning..
    lovely poetry
