Ashes to Ashes

Dust to dust

war ravages

with an indifferent thrust

always,

malicious

leaving victims

strewn about,

macabre refuse

collected,

solemnly remitted

to the earth

as salty tears

turn clay to mud.

This is very striking!! It made me think of war, genocide and just the passing of those generally unoticed.

    Your words are very powerful!

Deeply reminiscent of the forgotten soldiers who lie unknown to anyone except their comrades who fell with them, this is a powerful piece. Love, C

... and then there are those that never return home, left on a battlefield only to be found decades later. Your piece reminds me of a family that would not forget a fallen soldier. After searching for many years the remains of many Australian soldiers were found in a field in France. They will all be finally laid to rest with respect. A thought provoking piece you have penned here. Love Juls
