I love to lie beside him and watch him fall asleep,
to feel his tiny warm body next to my mine
to watch him so innocently
dreaming his sweet dreams
the precious smiles on his face
to hear his cautious breath
turn to an unrestrained rhythm,
like a perfect prayer,
to feel his little chest exhale and swell
as I rest my head on him
to hear his heartbeat
like it's beating only for me
like a little silent promise of life,
lulling me to sleep
pulsing, like an ancient lullaby, and then slowly,
realizing my own heart is beating as well,
cautiously at first,
but later breaking,
into a coaxing surge,
much like the ebb and flow of an ocean wave,
yet as calm as the sun in August.
I wish nothing but sweet dreams to my pride and joy...

I think that the first part has...been done, to put it bluntly. But it's still very sweet. Such a tender feel through the whole thing. It gets better once you begin describing your own heart.
