The word is whispered and
thought as she walks by…
waiting for the strong,
the courageous,
the self-absorbed who think
they are deserving...
entitled.
Born of death’s loins,
she waits for her prey;
a renewal of her life lies
in the love they will offer;
the blood they will shed;
the pain they will feel.
It’s a game she has played
for eons and yet, she still feels
the tingle of anticipation…
…maybe this time she will fail;
maybe the pettiness of the world
will have changed;
maybe this time she will find
the peace she craves in eternal
blackness.
He approaches her with small
talk and she smiles…
“but not tonight” she thinks…
“not tonight”.
