A Tale of Woe

The plague Mercutio released
to turn to shadow houses of the feud
turned it's back upon the words
and sought his master's home.

A youthful joker of the court
sought only to show his brilliance
but found himself instead dimmed
by the queen's pale beauty.

The fair queen thought herself frail,
afraid of old king's nightly demands
and in a lunatic romance,
they had joy for a short while.

The king's demands grew harsher
when he saw soft bruises on her neck;
he sought the joker's head
on stake in front of the castle.

They say that Juliet's fate was bleak,
but death the queen would have preferred
to seeing her lover's face outside her window
as the old King left her room.

Author notes

For those who haven't read Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio, a kinsman of the Prince, was killed because of the feud between the houses of Romeo and Juliet. As he died he died he said "A plague o' both you houses." So what if the fates decided to cast the plague on his own house?

Inspired word bank prompt response .

Hmm..., says I, clapping old hands in delight; I like. My, what a macabre imagination you have child and how gifted you are poetically in expression of such grisly fancies. Bravo! Poe move over. Title could be more evocative, all the rest is top shelf.

PS You shouldn't bother just know about any perceived imperfections, after all, you are in your formative years and have about 15 more to go before patterns are set.

WOW, fantastic! I have to be honest and say I didn't enjoy that particular play of Shakespeares, but I was sad when Mercutio died I love what you've created here though, your poem flows well, and I really enjoyed the imagery.
Thanks for sharing this, and taking the time to enter my contest,

    Luck.
