A Windowless Chamber

Too many hopes and dreams can only bring depression.

If you were locked in a windowless chamber,
if you watched all your candles burn from wick to stone
and if they burned all at the same time,
then after this only comes darkness-
in which you stay....
alone.

(After this there are no decisions)

You are doomed....
to be entrapped....
by....
your so called....

Fate.

Hopelessness.

ooooh I feel this. I just can't express though...just contemplating...

If you were locked in a windowless chamber,
if you watched all your candles burn from wick to stone
and if they burned all at the same time,
then after this only comes darkness-
    in which you stay....
    alone.

You describe a picture so clearly...something that penetrates into your mind...it almost becomes a memory.

"Too many hopes and dreams can only bring depression."

This must be stated as a universal fact, though sad but true.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I had never thought about that story but yes I guess it does convey a very similar sentiment! (even though that story is in fact much more terrible...) for me the sense of fear is something that underlies the meaning of this poem. a fear about life and decisions, death and choices.

    Welcome to AllPoetry

This reminds me a little of that news story recently regarding the poor woman whose father kept her captive in a windowless room.

You have created a sense of fear, deep within this poem ... very well expressed!
