OrangeMarmalade

OrangeMarmalade has gone
by many another name:
Jennyreb26thnc, Simply Jenny,
and Light of God here at AP.

But let's face it:
a rose by any other name
is still a rose and
smells just as sweet.

So I am OrangeMarmalade.
If you can get by my
sometimes bitter, tangy
skin, you'll find I'm sweet.

I like a little coffee or
tea with my sugar; the same
with marmalade, despite
the sweetness of an orange.

And the smell of an orange -
what a delight! So fresh,
so clean, like liquid sunlight!
So sweet, I never tire of it.

So I am OrangeMarmalade.
No, it is not the name
of a band; nor is it like
the song "Lemon Tree":

"Lemon tree, very pretty,
and the lemon flower so sweet;
but the fruit of the poor
lemon is impossible to eat."

No, 'tis not so with your
dear OrangeMarmalade.
And despite the apparent
tough skin I have,

I'm very soft and sensitive
underneath that peel - oh,
so delicate am I, your sweet
poetess, OrangeMarmalade.

OK, how am I going to avoid a lot of cheeky puns and metaphors in commenting here? I think I'll simply say that it had a light touch and raised a smile - particularly the last stanza, with its telling comparison with the tough skin. Pleasing stuff.

Heh I can relate... A name is a name after all, it's what the person with the name does that makes an impact. Nicely put! What family position would you like to be in my family?

I grew up thinking Marmalade only referred to the jam made with oranges - now that I moved to Germany, I have learned it is the word for any jam and my family gets confused when I ask for Marmalade when I am home because, growing up, only my Dad ate the (orange) Marmalade. I love that word! It is so colorful (and preferable to jam, for sure!)

I like your AP name a lot better now.

I have never tried marmalade, but I don't think I would like it. I hate jelly, but I do love oranges and I loved the way you described the peel of an orange and the scent. Really made me remember oranges and now I'm kind of hungry for one.

Can't say I ever thought you anything but sweet though. Good luck in the contest.

I'm not really sure how this fits the theme. If you could please make that a bit clearer....

Anyway, the poem itself is very good [=

I think this reveals a lot. I guess there was an amazing reason for the name change after all. I always knew you were tender and sweet under that tough skin though. This was a great poem that tell so much about who you really are. Good luck in the contest

I am glad to find you found a name you are happy with! I think women delight in confusing men, by changing hair color and style, moving furniture, changing names...

    Just kidding.

You try on as many names as you need. Exploration is good.

      Actually

We just like change. Change is, after all, the spice of life. Or is that variety?
