Such is the longing of a past planting
That clutch and root around
Each yearning, throbbing beat.
Your chest against mine as we held on.
Tendrils that creep through my bones
To flower images within my mind
Visions that wrap around me,
Where once it was your arms,
An earthy blanket, colors faded
From the sun washed thought of you.
Realities in which I once basked
Sprouting seed of whimsical dreams
Breaking free, floating light upon the wind
That breeze born of springtime’s desire
As your breath felt against my cheek.
Time shedding fertile tears, showering
With hopes gentle downpour
All the while unknowing
That not all seed bears fruit.
I begin to wither
Loves sad cycle completing itself
I drift into winters cold ground
Without you,
Dropping the petals of my heart
Left only with the dried stalks of longing.
