Am I Forgiven Lord?

(The golden question is the title, but the poem explains the question)

Am I forgiven Lord?
My heart is wrung with sorrow
I wish I could've held my tongue
Stayed my hand, thought before I acted.

Am I forgiven Lord?
I know that I have hurt you
I wish that I could make it right
Make it better, make up for it.

Am I forgiven Lord?
My soul screams when I see your suffering.
I wish I could help
Bear your cross, soothe your wounds.

Am I forgiven Lord?
My foolish heart has let you down.
I was not strong, I was not perfect.

My sins were not big in the eyes of others
Yet you loved me enough to suffer and die.
Forgive me Lord.

Author notes

The poem title is the question, but as I thought of the question, the poem appeared in my head. We need to love each other more, then we would not have to ask this question. God told us to 'Love one another as I have loved you', he saw worth in all of us but we fall short.

    From the Final Court...

"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us."--1 John 1:7-11

The above comes from a letter addressed to Christians of that time, written by a man who was Jesus disciple.

To walk in the light is to be in the truth of the Lord's gospel. Jesus came to save sinners, by dying on the cross in their place.

(I know you're in a Christian group here, so I'm probably saying something you've already heard.)

So if one has confessed to God (agreed with God; confession actually means agree) that what He has said about His own Son in the gospels. they are saved.

If one is walking in the light, they are living a pattern of obedience. It may be imperfect obedience, with an occasional sin, they are still walking with the Lord. The difference between a saint and a sinner is how they deal with sin. Saints repent when they realize their sin. Sinners don't care.

So if one confesses/agrees with God about a sin in their life, that persons intent is to repent. This is the person forgiven by God, because of Jesus. God only forgives in light of what that person said, having submitted to the Gospel of Christ.

People are not forgiven because they ask God to forgive them. People are forgiven because of Jesus; because that person has agreed with God about His own Son. That person has been given the right/authority to be a child of God.

Good parents don't disown their own kids. The same is true with the Father, because of Jesus.

    God bless!
