The tapestry of my life

Half of the tapestry of my life
has been well woven
with some bright colours
vying with others that are dark.

The red rose of Lancaster
lies beside the white one of York.
and the nine-flamed R E grenade
above an embroidered  ‘Ubique’.

The khaki thread of the Army
is woven with the dark blue
of the sea, the paler blue
of a pale-clouded sky.

Multicoloured threads from
a North African souk
have been interwoven with fine
red, white and green Italian silk.

Within the tapestry’s other half
is set an outline of the Great South Land
enclosing a green and yellow wattle
and a black swan with white-tipped wings.

Viewers may not understand
the inference of these colours,
but for me they form the palette
from which my life has been painted.

I really enjoyed this piece; the references to where life has taken you - it sounds as though you are living quite a remarkable life, and that I can relate to it through the specific colors and types of thread/cloth. Very unique.

I do not think the final stanza is specific or strong enough in relation to the rest of the poem. You also change your metaphor which you sustained so wonderfully in the other stanzas.
