Who Does Depression Hurt?

Not understanding why Mommy don’t laugh;
She remembers when it happened from back in the past.
They would build sand castles and mommy would swing her so high
She could almost believe she was touching the cotton candy sky.
They would lick ice cream cones and ride on a raft
And feel as the fun they were having would forever last.
But now Mommy is sad and doesn’t smile anymore
She wonders if a kiss on the cheek would reopen the door.
She could take her hand and pull her and act as though they were daft
Or maybe just sit on the bench beside Mommy; they could have a real blast
If only she knew what to do she would in a minute
For life isn’t fun without Mommy in it.

    A very sad and moving piece but still a wonderful use of the prompt. Packed with emotion yet full of artistery.

    'She wonders if a kiss on the cheek would reopen the door.
    She could take her hand and pull her and act as though they were daft'

    Two lines so full of a child's love. Awesome.

    Evocative and quite a painful write overall, I liked the way you create a sense of character and narrative here. Thoughtful and very well written, thanks for sharing. Hope it's successful in your contests. Cheers.
