Buk the Trend

~

I’m
giving up writing.

I’m going to buy a silk suit,
a gray tie
and live the life;

a pigeon
hole in the
Wall
Street we all
know and love

where all the dick
teases
will at least
value me for my
body.

Then I can be
the one
to hurl the
curly words
from
ivory towers.
Oh joy.

Poets pretend!

Ha!

This definitely nails the style! The longing for/thumbing the nose at respectable living that was ever-present in his work. Good job on this!

Bukowski is here with me now...grinning like a loon, half sloshed on my brandy (he is a glutton, but I love him). I think your bod is appreciated - but, isn't it your mind we are supposed to love you for?

    Love, Lane

Yes, it IS the mind we should be appreciated for but I threw that in there because it's a bit of the patented irony that Buk might have said in a poem just for sarcastic effect.
I'm glad you found this one Lane. I wanted you to.
Want a "Buk the Trend" T-shirt? I might just design and have some made.

It sounded so like him to start off - with that title as a clue and then you get to those wonderful curly words! Ha! This did make one end of my mouth creep up into a smile.

Lol...this was not only delightful, but I do have a mind to just snatch up the idea and run with it! But if you've already made the shirts, then can I order one?

    Love this.

Glad to see so many good Buk-esque poems in this contest (I had clean forgotten I was in it myself).

I'm just reading "Slouching Towards Nirvana", and I think you have the wee boy to a T here!

Thank you Pam. I must admit, even though I enjoy his crusty writes I had to think a bit of how I was going to pull this off without getting into the extreme expletives... lol

I think you handled that dilemma quite well - with expertise and tact. Not surprising though. You are a kind soul.
