Fighting

it's alright to breath in now, my friend,
the battles ended, but the wars not over yet,
and it'll be quite awhile before
we see the winner's circle

turn away those passive days (I have something to fight for)
they maintain their innocence (I have something to die for)
and now the smoke begins to clean (I have something to live for)

no one is a hero here, darling,
but little truths do appear,
one by one, so slowly,
so hold on (to what you know)
hold to things (promise you won't let go)

can't you hear my voice
through the battle cries?
why you close your eyes,
so you see mine?
do you see pure red?
I can't take it anymore.
Hush the cannon roar,
what is it we are fighting for?

Author notes

I was just thinking that there are so many people who just want to find something to protest. They don't even take time to realize what they are protesting...or they want something to rebel against. C'mon. Rebellion is very juvenille. Complaining doesn't change things. Actions change things. I sometimes feel like people are so busy fighting against something or for something that they don't even remember what it was they were trying to change.

So how was it?
