Somehow, you bring yourself
To hide your sorrow and walk out that door
The world will never see what's behind the mask
The mirror is the only one
Who knows that your not the idol
That you act to be each day
Inside, your nothing but lies
An identical version of yourself
Stares back at you from the polished surface
As you look away
Your tormentor is hidden once again from view
Put on perfect make-up
Flash perfect smiles and perfect eyes
Hide the scars from this unforgiving world
Maybe you'll make it through another day
Thoughts bounce within your head
Thinking things that you've never said
You might be able to hide from the world
But you know you can't hide from yourself
Staring into that mirror again
Showing the broken girl behind the act
Scars are finally visible for the world to see
Your no longer hiding, but free to slip away
Author notes
Option 1:
"And she knows that no matter how hard she tries,
and how much make-up she applies,
she can never hide from herself."
This is the option, so please don't disqualify me? Please? Anyway, this is written because so many people aren't as perfect as they seem, but only themselves can actually see through the mask, into the true person inside. If you look close enough, sometimes you can even see into their eyes, like a mirror, and then you'll be able to see what they truly are.

Wonderful
This was really great!! I especially loved how you ended it with the great finally becoming free of everything, even herself in a way.
Everyone puts up masks, but not everybody takes the time to see beneath them.
*As you look away
Your tormentor is hidden once again from view*
I think those were my favorite lines simply because of the power that they held. This also flowed smoothly and you did a wonderful job of incorporating the quote in the poem.
Thanks for entering and best of luck!
