When Hannah comes home,
have her take off her shoes
and place them by the door.
Have a pair of house slippers
ready for Hannah to wear instead.
If Hannah becomes upset,
end the interaction and
reapproach her when she is calm.
Calm is no screaming, crying or attempting to escape or aggress.
I have a shiny silver sticker, aren’t I promised September?
The sound of bottles breaking is not like rain,
It is more infinite and slow-spinning glitter
On air and a thousand tiny cuts waiting on the ground-
I hold Hannah’s hand as we walk
Around the shuddering semi
Insist that Hannah maintain
appropriate social distance (arm’s length)
when interacting with others-
Do not hold her hand!
When moving in a group, keep Hannah
on the fringe and place yourself
physically between her and others.
If Hannah becomes upset,
separate her from the group. Try
to bring her back
into the group
when she is calm.
Calm is no screaming, crying or attempting to escape or aggress.
I have a red barrette, aren’t I promised a mother?
Miniature fireworks crumbled
In cardboard boxes-brown, green,
Clear scrapings of light. The sound
Of bottles breaking is a waterfall and static
Please tell me what you think

This, I really like. I like the contrast between the different voices - the clinical, impersonal voice, and the first-person moments. And I really like the line ' have a shiny silver sticker, aren’t I promised September?' Not sure why. And 'Clear scrapings of light' - in fact the ending works really well overall.
