An ardent individual they must be,
Not the ones into conformity,
They think worlds apart from all the rest,
They would never pass the 'normal' test!
Mrs & Mrs Norman Normal they are not,
Behaviourally different even gone to pot!
Beyond the realms of the normal thinking man,
This is someone apart from the everyday clan.
An indigo child all grown up,
Some mock 'not the full cup'!
But they are searching for the meaning of life,
Some never become someone's wife!
Samuel Beckett played an 'End Game'
Like Shakespeare before him enjoyed the fame,
They stand out from the crowd,
To some they lift a dark grey cloud....
Entertaining and surely one of a kind,
These people are of the rare kind,
Loners and hermits often they be,
Whilst some demand centre stage you see!
Goths and Emo's, Hells Angels and vampires,
They are the unusual that in life transpires,
The natural born eccentric of gnomic drone,
They are all one on their own!
Protagonists of subconsciousness,
The Burlesque character is nothing less,
With post-Nietzchean sensibility,
Many graduate from life's university!
Anything intellectual with focus on true,
This is the existentialist for you,
Minds on another universe,
Never Indigo children in reverse!

Existential by definition.*RE-OPENED*
July 2008
SO HERE IT GOES--
---I am lowering the points for now..I will add more depending on number of entries.---
There are 3 different definitions for the word existential. I very much like the idea of a poem based on this definition:
"grounded in existence or the experience of existence"
so go with it
give me good work
try and think outside the box
dig deep and be creative
The 2 main rules:
1. no sticky caps
2. dare to be different

I love your poem. Studying existentialism has been a passion of mine for a few years now. There is this existential play called "The Future is in Eggs" by Eugene Ionesco that I love. You should check it out. Its quite absurd in that existential way. Once again, great poem

I loved it! It was so funny in a way that I can relate to completely and utterly. I guess I'm an existentialist then because I conform (bad word. I must not use that word
) to the ideas in your poem. Great write, by the way. I loved it. You listed (poetically, that is), just about every characteristic of an existential person in such a short, neat poem!
Congratulations.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks Millions Swim!
Thanks millions Swim, for your fab and kind review you are very inspiring and encouraging.
Glad you liked it.
I am the same, totally existentialist, non-conformist, zany and a free spirit in every sense of the word, even eccentric too I guess, but best way to be!
Its funny really because lots of people brand existentialists as mad or crazy but the truth of the matter is that the crazy ones are the ones who are not existentialists for being 'sheep' ... sheep are lead to the slaughter and fall short of a free mind but the non-sheep escape the same plight!
Thesedays if you conform you conform to ideals which are clearly not working and this is why so many countries are in a mess, so who are the crazy ones?!
Someone once said to me those who get discharged from lunatic asylums get a certificate of discharge to say they are fit to return to the community which is as good as a certificate of sanity, so at least they can proove they are sane but the rest of the community don't have these documents so what does that make them! Funny that eh!
Lots of existentialists are millionaires so what does that say too? Plenty of poor conformists!
I say be proud to be an existentialist its a good thing to be!
Best of luck in all of your contests, hope you win Gold in them all.
Poetic Hugs and Thanks Millions,
Kaz.

Me too!
Snap! I too am an existentialist, zany, crazy, and in my case I am a trainee geriatric juvenile delinquent (51 this September!), I full aim to grow old disgracefully and be as totally outrageous as I possibly can be, no holds barred and I shall of course blame my age ... may as well use age to my distinct advantage!
So glad you liked my poem and the pic, you are so kind and inspiring, thanks for reading!
Enjoy being crazy its far much more fun! Humour and love are the elixirs of life.
