step sideways
into unreachable space
and move at the rate of her
whispering hands...
there is the ache that
squats behind memory,
hides in the back row –
the wash of a woman
who busies herself
with the stroking of egos,
the coaxing of diamonds
from darkness of minds
there is the firmness,
the fixture of goals in
ethereal light
where she holds like a dam
or spills like a waterfall –
changing the course of
each poet she sails
there is the hunger for
more than one life,
illusion made true –
the image itself
that dresses a canvas
with singular taste
when life misfires,
spasms with pollen
dusting the unspread wing,
step sideways –
follow the deepening footprints,
drown in one of the delicate dreams
of a mind that maps
world on worlds,
sparks
and simply cannot be still...

There is a breadth and depth to this poem skillful and artistic, but most it has a voice of knowing and genuine inspiration, a fine tribute here, wonderful poetry...thank you for this fine entry into the contest and best of luck in the judging...PK

wow that was moving -
What a way to celebrate a friendship, the love and admiration simply shine through and it's so evident your friend means to world to you. Some incredibly profound imagery and metaphor going on here, it flows really well and is, all in all a very cleverly crafted and mature work. Thanks for sharing. It's a refreshing change to read a poem of celebration and positivity. Great write.

Boffo!
Lovely testimony and fine poem. Particularly like that "the ache that squats behind memory"
and the wash metaphor.
Good luck in the contest.

I am in tears and truly humbled by your words.
"Thank you" barely measures the emotion I feel. I am humbly grateful for your gift. Thank you my friend.

Sadly, I couldn't even scratch the surface of what I wanted to say.
I am the one who needs to say thank you. And I'm not alone.
Best, p
