Waking Up 12-26-07

I never wanted to change you. I just never thought you would turn out to be the person you are today.
One day you’re gonna wake up from your dream and know that I’m gone.
You will miss me, want to kiss me and make me smile.
And you’ll laugh at my jokes I told two years ago.
You’ll think of me on my birthday and want to call.
When we speak, there will only be memories that will lean against our hearts and make them warm.
Maybe you should’ve thought about that when you were filling a void that really wasn’t there.
You always said you like the scent and softness of my hair.
She can give you her body.  Can she give you the same feeling when I cuddled with you with my head to your nose?
Wake up. A rose is still a rose.
I loved you and stayed with you, in anticipation of you, even when you began to change.
You will reach out for me after I have walked five miles away.
You’ll ask me if I miss you.
I’ll have no choice but to diss you.
We’ll have memories.  Like when I kissed you but you were nervous because your mother and daughter were there.
You’ll long for me. Remember – love isn’t fair.
Our’s wasn’t.
You never gave me all I expected of you.
Now that I can’t love you back, you’re not sure what to do.
This is not a times out like you want to believe.
I have no more time hidden in my sleeve.
You’ll want to hear my voice because my echoes have grown vague.
I’ll talk about the weather, your heart will beg for more.
You used to be the only man I adored.
Now you’re just another great face and personality.
Only a distant friend to me.

A clear poetic description of a breakup.
"you were filling a void that really wasn’t there" is a good expression.
"You’ll long for me. Remember – love isn’t fair" is an insightful irony.
There is a controlled earnest tone throughout.

    Hmmm...

this seems to be really too personal in nature to share with strangers. I wouldn't want to post this for all the world to read, if it were me. Well, you did ask my opinion...
