They don't notice me
They sit next to me on the bus
And still they don't notice me
They stare into thin air
I watch them
Wishing for the pain to stop
I see friends
They don't understand
They think they do
But they don't
Life passes them by as they sit
Memorizing important things
But never knowing how to live
I watch them
Wishing for a realization
I see royalty
On thrones of media and fanatics
Smiling for the crowd
Smiling for the cameras
Working every hour
Except five for sleep and coffee
I watch them
Wishing for the veil to lift
I see ghosts
Of former people
Starving and surviving
Beating out the odds of dying
Only to die tomorrow
Only to be cast away by people
People who are equal but never care
I watch them
Wishing for their suffering to end
I see myself
I am trapped like everyone else
I see the world
Boiling in an endless storm of pain
I see demons
Ripping their kin apart
I see people
Just wanting it all to stop
Just hoping for a savior
That will never come
I see us
We have to save ourselves
Author notes
This is a poem reflecting a lot of my views of the world. I saw a contest and had only heard or read one of the songs or books, and I didn't want to use a fairy tale. I took inspiration from the song title, "Poor Unfortunate Souls". However, I wrote far too much. What was supposed to be limited to a 20 line poem turned into much more. Thus, I discard the contest, as I love the poem I have written far too much.

I think i use to wrote a poem similar to this one but it was like a king and a queen who doesn't care about the towns people.

Good eyes
Sadly, this is what the world has come to and it seems as though nothing and no one has stepped forward to bring it to everyone's attention, let alone try and do something about it. Like my homepage says, the world is corrupt and some *stuff* has to change and change fast. Maybe Obama...lol. But seriously, I agree with you 100% and your poem is really good. I like how you threw away the contest for your work. Good job!
