Lookin for a Score

I cruised on down to Wayne's place lookin for a score
but he said he'd got religion and don't do that shit no more

Thought of Randy Shifflet but he's doin five to ten
Hell, I ain't had no good pot, since I don't know when!

I stopped down at the Quickstop and bought a case of Bud
That Indian guy looked down at me like I was so much crud

But beggers caint be choosers is what my maw maw said
so I smiled and told him thank ya, 'stead of knockin off his head

I drove out on the fourlane which I shouldent never done
the cops pulled up behind me and I thought it best to run

So now I'm aimed at Dothan, goin ninety nine
and the thought of doin hardtime's sendin shivers up my spine

Don't know if I can do it, drink all that beer in time
cause I know they'll have a roadblock set up at the county line

It's Wayne's  fault I reckin, If he hadn't found the Lord
we'd be stoned and reminissin on the grass in his backyard

this is really great! i'd like to hear it set to music, maybe a del mccoury backing, you know a little bit of fast paced mandolin. the meter is perfect, very well done!

LOL, I love it! You should have come to my house. I need someone that knows how to roll anyway. The language in this little ditty is wonderful, it just brings it alive.

    Love,
    Amera♥

this is your own fault, near as I can tell.

I could probably chop this up into a sort of meter--but I think it speaks more to the obsolescence of meter in the modern idiom than it does to an adherence of regular meter itself. That is to say the meter rests within the dialect of the speaker.

the primary consideration displayed here is the use of Voice & rhythm, the latter being more a regional cadence than a universal one, to create character. The character then is used to display how words create atmosphere and environment, and ultimately attitude which could not be intimated with a regular stilted and standard meter which would restrict the individuality being strived for.
