I met you on vacation in England
I, sixteen and from America
You, nineteen and from Ireland
I was awkward and shy
You were bold and charismatic
I never will know what sparked your interest
But you asked me for that date
It was my first date
You knew I was leaving the next morning
You were gallant and sweet and tender
I left the next day a different person
A little bolder, a lot wiser
We exchanged personal items
I gave you my black rubber bracelet
While you surrendered your virgin mary medal from your necklace
The coincidence was not lost on me
We exchanged semi-weekly phone calls and letters
You sent gifts and valentine cards
I still have and cherish every one
You were so attentive considering
Of our relationship that really wasn't
We lost touch...I miss you
So many things have changed over the last 23 years
Wish we could catch up
You were my first and I'll never forget you
You are imprinted on my heart and etched in my memory

Oh for those first love type contacts even if so fleeting. This write brought that time for me, so many years ago. Thanks for entering. Good luck.

This is a very touching poem. It sounds like even though you had a very short time to see each other you still had a good friendship. I hope someday you can find each other again. Great job!
