We opened the windows
To the green garbage truck
Listening to the racket
Of emptying bins.
We opened the windows
To the plump, pompous turkeys
Strutting by like a king
And two princesses.
We opened the windows
To the galloping jackrabbit
A miniature, brown whirlwind
Racing away.
We opened the windows
To our dad's squat white car
Slowing down for us
To wave goodbye
And we wait for him there
So when he comes back
With a new discovery
The windows will already
Be open.

well done on your win, well deserved

I like the fairytale quality of this piece. It's childlike with Dad leaving in his car and the poet waiting for him to return.
An enjoyable write.

I like this a lot for its, perhaps deceptive, simplicity. The repetitions work nicely and I have a fun feeling of a bunch of kids speeding down the highway in the family Ford, sticking their heads out the back windows and greeting all the passerbys. A fun poem, a strong image. Thank you.
