To Mike

     We made tea, brownies ready,

   inventory counted and stocked,

     five minutes

      and we open.

but before the fast food,

I take the chance

to slow down.

 My drive-thru window

  lets me look out

    on sunrises I almost miss-

       oranges mixed with deep blues

slow blending into a beautiful morning

helps keep my mind off work

at least for a while.

Author notes

I worked at Chick-Fil-A in Denver. I would get in around 6 in the morning, almost always before sunrise. My manager Mike and I would get everything ready for the day. But if you don't know, Denver has the most spectacular sunrises/sunsets in the world. No joke. There have been scientific studies. but that's besides the point. Everyday I would look out that drive-thru window and see that sunrise, and I would slow down, recenter myself, and in some strange way (now that I think about it) be ready for the day.
I guess this is for Mike because I never really shared that with him.

I do have a picture, it's currently the background on my phone!, but I have no way of posting it. sorry, ea.

I know the contest says "home window", but this still qualifies, correct?

This SO beautiful! I went to Colorado for a month when I went on a missions trips with my youth group, and it was stunning. You're right about the sunrises. Minnesota has some spectacular ones, but Colorado's BLEW ME AWAY! But we have the Northern Lights, so I guess we're even. How awesome to be able to start a day as beautiful as this.

    Warmest,
    Mylee

Getting up in time for the sunrise is always a strange feeling, I find. Like you, I have had periods of working really early.

Nice write but I am not sure if the indentations on the left really add anything to it.

Boy, what a difference a beautiful sunrise view might make on someone's job outlook. Yes, I guess work is more home than home often enough and this is a nice take on the prompt. I hope Mike gets to read it with a smile.
