a necessity in my kitchen,
hide culinary delights,
too many to mention.
A collage showing life
covers bottom to top
as I go about my day
my attention grabbed, I stop.
Magnets from journeys of,
time spent in hot cars,
bring back road games played,
nights spent the stars.
Pictures carefully colored
by chubby, little hands,
photos from a beach,
kids covered in sand.
From birth until death,
such things act as a bridge.
Look, you'll see a family,
history, caught, on a fridge.
Author notes
theme, I guess you could say this was inspired by the many pieces of life stuck to my fridge!

Thank you for your entry in the contest. A very unusual and interesting poem, I guess we all have fridges or freezers covered in memories, thanks for making us aware of it.
All the best in the judging

Very Unique!
I would have never thought to write about being a fridge. Wow! This was very cool!! Imagery and creativity wise, nailed it!
Magnets from journeys,
time spent in hot cars,
bring back road games played,
nights spent under only stars.
This stanza was awesome! Just wanted mention that because the overall poem was very well written. Thanks's for the entry and good luck!

this is so kewl the way you give the fridge a personality with all the family interacting with it
Pictures carefully colored
by chubby, little hands,
photos from a beach,
kids covered in sand.
its like a big art display that changes over time an is kinda like the family gallery. this is great!

Hi Kathryn. It’s good to see you back again!

Okay...like Bear, I feel this got shorted in the depth department.
However...it did keep my attention...there’s just soooooo much more I wanted to know! And, in L6, do I detect a missing filler word? It read awkwardly to me, and I’d not be surprised if you added an “and” or a “to” after the contest is over.
I think...this might be a poem to try writing in free verse as well as this rhymed version, just for curiosity’s sake...and see if it makes any difference in your word choices or the details you choose to put in. Just a suggestion, of course. I do like this, and actually see a lot of potential in it, with just a little more expanding. Sometimes it’s the most ordinary life things, that make the most extraordinary poems.
My scores will come in the final notes...
Thanks so much for your entry, and hope to see you back soon!
Best wishes,
~J. -

Hi Trista! Yes, I think there could have been more depth here. I get very frustrated with the 20 line rule. I like the idea of trying this in free verse. I may give that a go this weekend. Thanks for taking the time to help judge the PO this week. I know the amount of work that goes into it and it's no small thing! God bless and I guess I'll have to try a little harder next time!

Hi Kathryn,
If you try it in free verse...and it turns out to your liking and you post it...will you please send me a link?
I'd love to see it!

I like this theme - I think many can relate to it. Most women I know are 'magnet junkies'...lol I think your images are good - do wish you had described some of your magnets, though - as I do enjoy the unusual magnets I see and read about. Still....enjoyable, read nicely, good wording, neat presentation, rules followed. A very nice entry.

My scores will appear with final remarks. Best to you in the contest!

well, I guess it would be easy to say you didn't particularly care for this one, huh? I find myself in a bit of a slump. With not much time to write now that I'm working I find I am going stale very quickly. I'll try again next time
