Dust and Smoke

Missing image
Cold wooden floor beneath us,
playing war games in the dark.
This storm promises to take its time
as lack of electricity draws us close.

Reading poetry from dusty books,
cigarette smoke filling this corner,
our words come out in whispers
for reasons unknown.

At some point,
we abandoned our station...
the intended destination
a warm and welcoming bed.

...the soldiers with their ranks
played music by the candlelight
as pages from the dusty book
caught fire in the night.
