I'm thankful for our government
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else
But I think I'm paying for something
That might be sitting on a shelf
There is more than one issue
That I could comment about
But the current issue I think
I'll talk about and shout
It's the war on drugs
Where has it overcome
All the abuse and damage
This terrible "thing" has done
We should have ten armies
If that is what we need
To stop all the drug runners
To remove their dangerous deeds
Our Government hands out money
For many projects I know
But drugs are destroying our Nation
There are many new seeds to sow
We need a huge force of people
With permission to arrest these offenders
Destroy all the drugs they find
Remand all regardless of gender
Americans let's stand tall
Let's rid our Country of this disease
Before it destroys our Nation
Let's all pull together, PLEASE
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else
But I think I'm paying for something
That might be sitting on a shelf
There is more than one issue
That I could comment about
But the current issue I think
I'll talk about and shout
It's the war on drugs
Where has it overcome
All the abuse and damage
This terrible "thing" has done
We should have ten armies
If that is what we need
To stop all the drug runners
To remove their dangerous deeds
Our Government hands out money
For many projects I know
But drugs are destroying our Nation
There are many new seeds to sow
We need a huge force of people
With permission to arrest these offenders
Destroy all the drugs they find
Remand all regardless of gender
Americans let's stand tall
Let's rid our Country of this disease
Before it destroys our Nation
Let's all pull together, PLEASE
Author notes
I wrote my poem on Will Rogers statement Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for. I enlarged on this.

Atta girl
You're absolutely right the problem is a lot of fat cats in our govt. are getting kick backs from the drug lords. Not my imagination. If we were serious about the war on drugs it would be over. If you notice no one ever talks about it anymore. Great write, perfect cause. Thank you, for your thoughts on a very real problem, Boog

Hey Boog, thank you for reading my poem and for your comment. I think as Americans we all need to speak out more against injustice and stand up and be counted. The drugs in this country are taking our youth away. They are our future. If I were younger I would bug the government to do something. You know I still may do it. After all you and I are the government too.

I fully agree with this poem. i think drugs are one of the worst things in this world and our government and all citizens should be trying to stop them. Great and powerful write!!

Thanks PianoMan. If enough Americans bombard our Rep., our Senators, Vice President and President, not to forget Congress as a whole, then maybe we will get somewhere.

For some reason I just keep reading your poems and now I understand why I like your point of view since once I had a problem with drugs. I am clean now for a few years but still now many people who are in the struggle

One of the problems with the war on drugs is that it seems to be fought against the little guy. The problem is where the money is. Recently a drug smuggler was caught smuggling drugs in a submarine. That tells you how much money is being made.
I like the rhyme and flow of this poem. Thank you for entering.

I am always interested in people's veiws on the war-on-drugs. I think it's lost. No one in power will pull their weight to get it sorted because so many of them make money from it and are corrupt themselves.
I wish people would, as you say in your poem, pull their socks up and get to work sorting it out. But I think its a lost cause.
Good poem.
Lets get people thinking
