You danced in every drop of rain
And told me with your eyes
“Take my hand,” but I could not
Under those dark gray skies.
When it comes to you
I must be the one who cares
As you hold your breath under the water
Another foolish dare.
You told me to look into the mirror
And meet my own reflection
You told me that my eyes are empty
Hiding from connection.
You’re darting across the street
In front of moving cars
All I can do is wait and pray
That you won’t stray too far.
I feel that you’re slipping
Do you know that your slipping?
You tell me to look up from the ground
To keep myself from tripping.
You keep saying I’m afraid
I’m afraid to live and learn
But I could never follow you
So I just watch you burn.
When I tried to meet your eyes
The dark and endless voids
You broke my heart when you broke my gaze
And walked away annoyed.
How could I ever join you
In what you say you’ve enjoyed
When I’ve been watching year by year
As you slowly are destroyed?
