finally - the struggle is over
we have won
our voices united -
our call for justice was heard
"WIR sind das Volk!"
the wall of shame
has finally fallen apart
we are free -
free from the dictators
who controlled our every move
finally - after years of despair
we are able to hug our friends
we haven't seen for so long
the call is still resounding in the streets
and there are tears in my eyes
"Wir sind EIN Volk!"
we have won
our voices united -
our call for justice was heard
"WIR sind das Volk!"
the wall of shame
has finally fallen apart
we are free -
free from the dictators
who controlled our every move
finally - after years of despair
we are able to hug our friends
we haven't seen for so long
the call is still resounding in the streets
and there are tears in my eyes
"Wir sind EIN Volk!"
Author notes
"WIR sind das Volk!"
"WE are the people!"
"Wir sind EIN Volk!"
"We are ONE people!"
in case you were wondering, this is about the German reunification 1989/1990

I like this though I have no knowledge of "Wir sind ein Volk!" I presume it's something to do with the feelings of the German people after WWII.
Glancing down at the other comments, I realized I was wrong. The end of the Berlin Wall -- that makes more sense of the poem.

It is about the fall of the Berlin Wall. "Wir sind EIN Volk", with the emphasis on "EIN", which translates as "ONE" ("We are ONE people"), means that East and West Germans (Berliners) felt they belonged together and didn't want to be separated by this stupid wall anymore...
Thank you for commenting!

I finally felt this during The Fussball Weltmeistershaft in 2006 when the kids came out waving flags.
Well, it was nice how Obama was welcomed in Berlin last week.

I was going to watch his speech yesterday on the internet, but something distraced me from doing so... I think that was AllPotry.

This is a German thing, right? something about the Berlin wall?

Yeah, sure. Although I wasn't even alive then.

Terrific work!
This is very good. The feeling of liberty within the poem is a really good approach, and is indeed gloriously achieved to the reader. I like the German involved aswell, it gives the composition it's special touch. Well done, this was wonderful. Bravo!

Fine writing, filled with enthusiasm and inspiration.
A spirited poem that I find quite satisfying.

One might argue that this is not yet true; after all, the Austrians are German in a very real sense are they not? And a greater Germany of one people would need to include them, or should I say re-include them? Again, the rifts between Ossis and Wessis are still real.
