I like girls.

Hey mom,
Guess what!?!?!

I'm gay!
I know it isn't the happy news you wanted.
But just to let you know,
Cassidy isn't just a friend.
She is my girlfriend.

Mom please don't cry.
Please just accept me.
You told me last night you would love me no matter what.

This isn't any different.
Mom.
Please don't hit me.
Mom!

I thought you wanted me to be more honest with you.
I thought you said I could tell you anything no matter what.

I know I am not your perfect angel anymore.
I never have been.
I know I am not that innocent person you thought I was.
I never have been.
I like girls.

It is not just a stupid phase.
Don't you get it?
I thought that I could tell you.
I guess not.
I will leave.
Emmancipation is not that hard.

All this is happening because
I like girls

Thank you for being patient with me and entering my contest.

How unfortunate your mom does not seem to understand. I wish you happiness with your love, for gay, straight or wherever love manifests itself.

There are so many poems people could write about this, but I think yours is truly one of the best I've heard. It's almost the straight fowardness of it. Thanks for entering and good luck.

wow....this pretty much suprised the hell outta me because, frankly, your other stuff ain't too good
    but i like this
besides the line "emmancipation is not that hard"- that's childish and cruel
but anyways, it's a cool poem and i like it

Been there done that, but I've never heard it conveyed with such power. Beautiful job. It's a great piece of work.
