You are the tale that never was
Not once upon a time
The memoir slash who-done-it
With no reason and no rhyme
You are the song that never played
That still remains the same
Where music is the coursing wind
And chorus is the pain
You are the book nobody wrote
On pages never turned
With phrases that nobody read
And lessons never learned
You are the movie no one saw
That isn’t hard to find
Shining up against the wall
In back of every mind
You are the words no one has said
That speak of hope and doubt
Contentedness and sorrow
Altogether and without
You are the thought no one has had
Or yet can not describe
You are the spirit of the pen
The soul of every scribe
You are the verse no one has tried
That waits to break a heart
That dreams about an ending
That nobody dares to start
You are the spring of laughter
And the memories of old
You are the keeper of the soul
That never will be sold
You’re all these things because we’ve yet
To make it all come true
I guess sometimes the words are all
That people ever do
You are the poem that never was
That speaks of you and me
You’re all these things and many more
You Are, My Poetry
