Our children at risk

Our children at risk

We take each day for granted - things were good
until the news came through that changed our lives.
First, Jasmin and Cam’s car turned on it’s hood -
three times it rolled and yet they both survive.

We could have lost the two of them that day -
it wasn’t meant that they would leave us yet.
Their work on earth not done is what they say -
that moment’s inattention they regret.

A can of coke Jas went to reach on side
the car it veered to left and hit the edge.
It pays to watch the road, enjoy the ride.
To drive with care each time is now her pledge.

In time the wounds will heal and they will thrive.
They both agree it’s great to be alive.

And then another call came through last week
this time it’s Aaron hurting now in pain.
A guy without a reason, drunk, did seek
to maim his face for no apparent gain..

One blow was all it took the bones to break
his cheek and jaw and nose a bloody mess.
They had to reconstruct his face to make
him look the way he was - they want no less.

The cops came round to say they caught the man -
they saw it all and saved our boy less harm
and now the guy is charged and in the can
he’ll go. The cops had grabbed him by the arms.

It’s sad to think our children have to pay
the price that rage has brought to us today.

Author notes

Sunday July 13th Jasmin was reaching for a can of coke, the car veered off the road
hit an embankment and rolled three times, her partner Cameron
Was knocked unconscious and has a cut across his eye, needing stitches.
Jasmin fractured a vertebra in her neck, luckily the fracture goes the opposite
Way to her spinal cord, she has to wear a neck brace until it heals.
I reckon she won’t take her eyes off the road anymore.
Sunday July 20th Aaron came home from Airforce base to attend a friends 21st Birthday party,
afterwards they all went to a nightclub but before entering his mates
decided to go elsewhere, so Aaron stayed and was on the stairs waiting to go in
when for no reason the guy behind gave him a king hit knocking Aaron
unconscious, luckily 2 policemen saw the attack and grabbed the guy and
handcuffed him and arrested him.
Aaron has had reconstruction surgery to repair his face.
The picture is of Jasmin with her cousin Aaron and Cameron her partner
Is on the right. Taken 2 years ago.
My Grand children are precious to me.

Sweet Angelica, I am so sorry to note that your grandchildren met with evil fate and consoled that they have survived and well now. Your angelic blessings saved them. The sonnets you wrote to narrate the events are very nice. My heartywishes to the grandchildren who are blessed by God. Surely they shall be doing a great help to the society by their great skills

Both grandchildren could be movie stars...

Gorgeous grandchildren . Your grandson Aaron reminds me of Dennis Quaid and is such a responsible, fine young gentleman.

As thankful as I am Aaron and Jasmin survived I am, also, sad that they both had to go through this painful ordeal. And you, too. For when our loved ones are hurt it hurts those of us who love them.

Thanks Pixie, Julie and Sharon have both been good Mothers and their Children turned out well, very polite and respectful and hard workers.
He does look a bit like him.

Good God, I just sent off an IM with a hi and how are you. Precious would be an understatement. I hope it all works out. It is more interesting than Days of our Life where you live. I really hope things settle down to utter boredom for you after all this. Thinking of you with love

    xx

    PS well expressed piece

Dear AJ, I know how we all felt when we heard the news about Jasmin and Cameron, then to receive the news Aaron had been hurt by that vicious thug! I hope they put him in jail so he can't hurt any other innocent bystander.
I've rung Julies place and have spoken to her and Aaron just to reassure myself he's ok. I've also spoken to Jasmin, she tells me how uncomfortable the neck brace is but she MUST leave it on.
My cousins are very lucky that they are on the mend, we could've lost them.
A lovely double Sonnet you have written.
    Love Jen

    Dear Bea,

While the accident of Jasmin and Cameron left me stunned at first and then thankful and relieved that they had both survived (when I look at the photo of the mangled car I think it's a miracle that they weren't completely crushed!)and finally concerned again over the nature of Jasmin's injuries and the picture of her in hospital with all that apparatus under her back and on her neck and head.
Within a matter of hours came the news of the savage, unreasoned and unprovoked attack on Aaron by a mindless drunk (probably wearing a knuckle duster) which left his cheek, jaw and nose smashed in. How lucky that police were standing nearby and leaped in to apprehend the young thug and prevent him hurting Aaron further when he was already knocked unconscious! I hope the b...r gets a stiff jail sentence and not just a mild slap on the hand when he goes before the judge.
You tell the story of both incidents very well within the limits of two 14-line sonnets and I applaud your double effort with love and hugs, XXX Hugh.
